Hi having kept FW fish for a while i'm looking to convert one of my tanks to a brackish setup. Could i take an already cycled FW tank and slowly increase its salinity to turn it into a brackish tank? If so which is the best salt product to use, what sort of time period should i be looking at converting it over. Also (sorry about all the questions) i was thinking of using mollies to keep the tank cycled what do you think?

thanks

just slowly add aquarium salt day by day until you reach the right density.

Use Marine salt and raise the SG by no more than .002 a week, that way the bacteria has time to become accustomed and it wont be killed off by a large increase in SG. Keep doing this until you reach your desired brackish level.

The salt you will want to buy is called Instant Ocean made by Marine Land labs. It's the best in my opinion.

Also I should mention that under no sercumstances should you ever just put the salt in the tank, You need to mix it up in a seperate bucket first.
