This really needs more criteria. Unlimited funds, space and time? Limited funds, space and time? Somewhere in the middle?
I'd prefer saltwater.
But freshwater costs a fraction as much and I can do water changes straight from the tap so I prefer freshwater.

I don’t have very good luck with saltwater so I pretty much have all fresh but if I were a millionaire saltwater all the way:headbang2But I would also have a 100, 000+ gallon amazon biotope tank with Airipima and huge catfish an stingrays... if only

Ok. This thread kinda changed into a dream fish thing. So, list your dream fish! But please do the poll as well, I would like to see what percentage of people like salt, and what people like fresh.

Having both, I have been having more fun with freshwater, but my vote goes to saltwater. When doing saltwater, you actually can create a fully functioning ecosystem and can really see everything flourish. Also, when you own so much freshwater, it is a nice change in speed and scenery, despite being so much harder.
Even then it does depend on individual fish preference.

For a fish only salt water tank, its not quite as complicated and only about double the cost of a similar freshwater tank, over time.
But if I was going to do a saltwater tank, I'd want a reef tank, so the cost would probably quadruple the cost of equipment alone, compared to a much larger freshwater tank and the monitoring of water parameters, nutrients, and other factors would be much more complicated.
I'm lazy and not wealthy, so I'll stick to fresh.

Besides... you get to snorkel right outside your front door. Lucky!?

duanes duanes , saltwater does cost a lot. Fish only tanks tho (such as wrasse) are still expensive, and would probably be closer to 3 times the cost.
