Picked up this guy from lfs couple days ago.. Was labeled as friedrichsthali was wondering what you guys think? Any idea if it's female or male? It's only about 5-6 inch right now. It's in 120gallon with convict/texas hybrid and some tiger barbs.

Cali's totally got the I.D. down definitely a Loisellei, still a awesome fish IMO. I just picked up a pair myself. I also agree with Cali on the reputable vendor and buying from them. It's always better seeing as you can rest easy on the I.D. and the fish will be of better quality and therefore a whole lot more rewarding to grow out. I personally only buy cichlids from Ira, Jeff Rapps or directly from Don Conkel when possible. Nice looking fish you got their and it's a male so feed him right maintain water quality and he should grow into a pretty awesome looking fish.
Thanks guys. Still a really cool fish. Was a little timid the first day or two but he's coming around nicely. Looking forward to watching him grow.
I think if your actually looking for a Freddy you would know the difference. A lot of the people I see asking for ID just happen to look at the writing on the tank real quick and get it then wonder if it was right or not.
All the Parachromis are awesome fish, just some marked more $$ than others and unfortunately people seem to get duped a lot by paying more for the Freddies and Motas when they are young only to find out they got the cheaper loiselle's
