Hey Everyone,
I acquired this freddy a couple months ago.
I got it from a buddy of mine who raised it from a baby. I interpreted it as a lightly coloured freddy... he said it was a female... my other buddy who has kept many parachromis also said female after the first look. So... I figured whatever, its not as spotted as my males so it probably is a female. Took it home, quarantined it for a month or so... then I tossed it into another tank that has another female freddy of mine in it (my keeper female). Well this one just kept beating on mine (and my keeper did NOT exhibit ANY breeding colours or behavior at all with it around). Anyways I finally made some space in another tank and got her away from my keeper female (I have 5... 2 males, 3 females, well this female is on the rocks).
This fish is not as barred vertically as my females, and shows the same bars as my larger male when angry... but she is nowhere near as spotted. The tank she ended up in was a divided tank (its kind of a holding tank with a divider), with my big male on the other side. Well, she and he always try to go at each other through the divider. So, that makes me think male, but it fought with my female too... doesnt act like breeding with either one (but all my other freddies are compatible).
Anyways here are the two pictures of her.. then I will follow with two pictures of my big male (whom the small male looks very similar to in pattern, colour, shape, etc... anyways).
And now the male.
Now... I cant decide if that big 'unknown' is showing a hump or not... cause one of my females (smallest) has the same forehead shape.
If anyone can sex by looking at the anal region, i have a picture of that as well that I can post.
Anyways, thanks for looking and the help!
Cheers,
Chris
