So, my friend, who is new to fish and thinks he knows so much more than he really does, wanted an oscar for his 30 gallon. He goes to petco and petsmart, and they said he could get one, with room to spare for an 8 inch fish (only goes to show, petsmart and petco are stupid). But, that's not the worst part... He didn't cycle the tank. The 8 inch fish died in about 4 days (which was longer than I thought), so he got a new cichlid (which all he knows about it is that it is from Nicaragua). The oscar has lived 3 weeks so far, UNC (Unidentified Nicaraguan Cichlid). How long would you before the two die of HLLE?

do your friend a favor and buy him two convict cichlids a breeding pair and trade him....tell your friend not to be stupid....also i think the nicaragua cichlid you are talking about is a Hypsophrys Nicaraguensis

lol, just kidding. But seriously, maybe take him to a pet store with knowledgable people, and make them tell him what he's doing wrong, or follow him around while reading a good fish book to him aloud. Do something, it'll save the fish and his money

Thanks, sorry i've been off for a while, he upgraded to a 50 gal for the oscar and kept the fish in the same tank, so he's getting better. I will recomend this site to him (again) and maybe he will get addicted (like me) and learn a bunch
