Ok so my friend who is also somewhat into fish keeping, not as much as me mind you, got a goldfish a few months ago from petco. He called it jimmy and he lived a happy life in a 10 gallon tank. until about 2 weeks ago he died from some complicated with his HOB. My freind took the day of from school for it, and I thought it was him being really dramatic so he could miss school. Apparently I was wrong and this kid really, really was hurt by the death of this fish. Today I asked a group chat that im in - "do yall like jimmy or my fish more". (Keep in mind I didnt think he actually cared about the fish that much, i thought he was using the death as an excuse. He got really mad and told me to "suck it" and then kicked me out the chat lol. Was I being mean or was he being mega dramatic?

I don’t know how attached to a gold fish someone could get In a few months but I have definitely had fish that were very special to me and upset me very much when I lost them.
Everyone is different and some see fish as not really a pet as much a possession others can become very attached.
Who’s place is it to judge how someone else feels at the loss of a pet?
I don’t really see the need to comment even if your friend was just playing it up for an excuse. Why does it matter? It’s their life

When my Oscar and my jag died I was ready to pour bleach In the tank and be done with it entirely (I didn't obviously) and they were the only one in that tank that died! A loss sucks no matter how attached you are to the fish or what kind of fish it was. Personally I think we should support everyone else around us when they lose fish, at leastif they were attached to them. Just my .02$
