I have a 7 or so inch wild caught Oscar. I have had him since he was about 3-4". It took him a while before he started warming up to me, I figured it was because he was wild and not used to human interaction. After having him for about a month he seemed to really be used to me always greeting me when I came in the room and no longer hiding or sulking when changing anything or doing water changes.

Boy was I wrong about thinking that, he was just getting started. Now I walk in the room and he starts shaking his head around swimming up, down, left, right, etc etc. If I don't give him any attention after all that, he will jump up repeatedly hitting the glass tops and to make them bang around. By this point I will go over and tap on the glass, but no, he isn't happy unless I really bang on the glass hard. Once I give him the attention he wants by tapping the glass really hard he turns into a puppy. He starts playing with my hand, swimming to the far side of the tank then he comes flying over to where my hand is and jerking around like a playful puppy would do. Oh, what the severum must be thinking watching this mentally challenged Oscar go ape **** over me :)

Now all this is cute, and I love his crazy fun personality, but there is a downside to all this. FEEDING TIME! Good god, you wouldn't think he could get any crazier but boy does he get excited. I feed him cichlid gold, but the severum turns his cheek to it. He is too good for it, he wants freeze dried blood worms, which of course the oscar loves too.

Now picture this, standing in front of the tank, ready to feed, in your underwear, like a zombie at 1am or later because your day just isn't complete until you spend hours on mfk or ac reading as many threads as possible and looking at everyone's new monsters  You open the top of your tank with food in hand and as your thumb and index finger hover over the tank with that pinch of food BAM! Your fish has jumped up, has your fingers half way down his throat, stealing all the food in your fingers, startling you, then splashing water all over your face! Of course, leaving your other fish with no food so you have to do it all again, eventually being drenched in fish water, grabbing a towel to dry yourself off after your monster deciding you need another shower.

Yes folks, this is my life. Surely I'm not the only one. Now, I wouldn't trade him for the world, but I wish we could come to some kind of agreement that he would at least not splash me. Nothing pisses me off more than a fishy shower when I'm half asleep :D

yep that kinda sums up my four oscars, there just like dogz, when friends are around and i walk in they go crazy, mates cant beleive they reconise me until they witness it themselves, they would walk in first with the missus and not a thing, i walk in boom bam there everyway waggling and wiggling

thats the joy of owning an oscar. the "water dog". yeah my 2 oscars do the same. feeding them is like working at sea world. get soaked all the time. good luck

yes.. this is bound to happen. mine have gotten better as they get older. i also put the food in my hand and then stick my hand into the water...they bite and rub up against my hand till i open it! it's good fun, enjoy :).

Thats awesome! Makes me miss my Oscar...

that's awesome! i've found myself many a time when i look at fish 'playing' with the oscars haha.

lol yeah, oscars have some ballin' personality.
