I've been a member of MFK for quite awhile now and have only kept fish as pets. Unfortunately, my work sent me out of state about a year ago and I had to sell all my aquatic friends, though I did keep a few of my larger tanks because this move is only temporary(2 more years). I have no wet pets so to speak and I'm ready to get back into another hobby that will be a much easier move incase my work sends me somewhere else again. :irked:

I have always wanted to try my hand at keeping frogs and/or geckos, preferrably lygodactylus williamsi(blue gecko) and any type of unique colorful frogs.

For starters, I want to find a tank that will hold atleast 4-5" of water in the bottom. I do plan on having a small water area in the front corner of the tank. I would like to have more land area than water in order to grow moss and plants on it. I also plan on building my own background with ledges, small pots to grow plants in and of course a waterall.

I DEFINITELY WANT SLIDING OR FOLDING FRONT DOORS on this enclosure(ease of access). I have seen the ZOO MED and EXO TERRA tanks but I think for what you get, the price you pay is too much. plus the tanks are rather small in my opinion SOOOO......

Must haves:

> sealed bottom and partial sides for small water area
> sliding or folding front doors
> 36"L x 18"W x 24"Tall or LARGER!!

Now that you guys kinda have an idea of what I'm looking for.... please inform me of any businesses or websites that make a nice tank for a decent price or any unique DIY projects that you have seen and loved.

I'm not too keen on building a tank myself just for the fact I would rather spend my time building the landscape and background. BUT, I'm not afraid to DIY, it's just my lack of time because of work.

**and any great frog and gecko websites w/info and places to buy them would be a huge help since this tank build will be their home;)

Glasscages.com makes tanks with front access like that: http://glasscages.com/?sAction=ViewCat&lCatID=4
It does say that they can't be filled with water, but I wouldn't expect 4-5" would be a problem (although, I would contact someone from glasscages about that)

Also, I believe Vicious_Fish sells the geckos you're looking for

if you're willing to pay it, josh's frogs sells dart frogs at expos for about 50$ each. i have two dendrobates tinctorious in a tank now. and if you're interested, i really like salamanders. about as easy to care for as frogs, if not easier.

I will keep that in mind about the gecko but it will be a while since I plan on building a background with waterfall and small "pond" area in the front corner.

I actually went to a LFS and got an extremely good deal on a 37 gal tall(20"x18"x24"tall) and a 65 gal. (36"x18"x ??? I forgot how tall). I really wanted the doors on the front but for the price I payed I can live with a normal fish tank:D

Does this Josh guy have a website?

There is a herp expo next week in Birmingham, AL that I plan on going to just for info purposes since there is no way I can complete this tank by then.

Definitely check out the expo, chances are you will find a wide array of animals that fit your likings. Ideally, go Saturday to browse, do your homework Saturday night, then go back Sunday to purchase.

Consider customizing your Aquariums so they lay on their backs so the open 'top' becomes the 'front'. Then make sliding glass doors for the front (which was originally the top).

I'm in the middle of building an elaborate vivarium and am researching options for inhabitants. I looked into keeping Williamsi Geckos and Dart/Tree Frogs, but my reseach says they are not very compatable. Not only are the air flow and humidity requirements different, so are the temperatures...

I'm still undecided on what I will keep in mine...
