:help2:

I got my 5 African bullfrogs last Sunday. The last was one free when I bought the rest, but he was kinda skinny. I figured he would do ok though. 4 of them are eating like champs, taking earthworms, roaches, crickets, and even some talapia fillet that I thawed for my fish.

The other one, not so much. He looks sickly, and is probably a third of the weight of the other 4. Unfortunately, I don't think he has much time left if he doesn't get eating very soon. He ate one worm the second day I had him, but that has been it until today, while the others eat daily and have nearly doubled in size. My friend Mike came over and we were able to force feed him a quarter of a worm today. I just don't think that is gonna cut it and get this guy healthy.

I believe that these are WC, but I may be wrong. I think my next plan of action is too, uh, as mike called it, "blenderize" some worms and insects, add some vitamins, and try to use a syringe to feed him. This will happen tomorrow if I can get home from class and have some time after studying. Is that a better idea than just using an earthworm and struggling to get him to eat that?

I'm just looking for opinions at this point. What do you amphibian experts think? If it would help, I can throw up some pics tomorrow. It just amazes me that four could do so well, and one wont eat. I want this guy to make it, and I'll do pretty much anything that you think will help if I can.

Thanks.

If they are wild caught you will probably want to dose them all with a wormer anyways.....
it could very well just be stress from capture and transport that is killing the one, it happens... Try to make em as comfortable as possible, get on top of any potential parasites, keep them all separate and quarantined.

I happen to think that you should ought to separate the last guy as an experimental and precautionary measure. Try feeding him then, as well as deworming. Force feeding is not exactly the best of options..

Pretty much, it's already gone........

If you have a Pyxie that doesn't want to eat, you already have your answer.......Don't try and De-worm them unless you get a fecal and know what you're treating, otherwise you'll end up with 5 dead Pyxies........

Eric, trying to learn here. Isn't panacur (fendabazole) a safe dewormer?

Thanks for the opinions guys. Unfortunately, I believe eric is correct. He looks terrible and I don't think he will make it through the night. I had to try the force feeding. It was my only option at this point to try to get him the strength to live. It was either stress him out and get him some food, or just watch him waste away, which I think would be pretty stressful on him anyway.

All of the pixies are separate in rubbermaid tubs. The tubs are at about 78 degrees, and the humidity is somewhere around 80%, and that's a guess. They get a light mist daily. They have paper towel as a substrate and a water dish as well as a small dish of eco earth should they decide to bury themselves in it.

And I don't know if they are WC, i just said it was a possibility. I contacted the person I bought them from for an answer.

I've done just about everything I can, and now I'm just going to have to see if he will eat again on his own within the next day or so, and if not I may have to euthanize him. :( But it happens. It wont be the first time, and won't be the last.

Sorry to hear about your frog and I agree, a pyxie frog without an appetite is never a good sign.

Also I doubt they're wild caught since there are people captive breeding them now.

Consider euthanasia if the case is hopeless?

Well, it turns out that they were not wild caught, but I lost the little guy today. He refused food again last night and I didn't want to try force feeding again, and he was dead in the exact position that I left him in last night when I checked on him this morning.

I guess its ok though. I have 4 more very healthy and happy pixies left so that's good. At least they all weren't sick.
