I'm looking for some kind of soil that plants can grow in for my frog tanks. I've been looking but can't seem to find anything that doesn't have ferts or some other chemical in it. I want this for my white's tank and fired belly toad tank. Anyone have a suggestion?

What kind of plants are you adding? There are additive-free potting mixes available, as well as topsoils. You can make your own potting mix with topsoil, sand, and peat or coir; proportions depend on the plant species and drainage. It's a good idea to pot the plants. Then you can fill the remainder of the land area with coir or other frog-friendly substrate and easily clean or change it without disturbing the plants.

peat moss will work for most plants and frogs, and it is cheap

Just make sure if you buy soil it's organic.

so any organic will work? i picked of a bag a week or two ago that said organic, but it says it has a wetting agent so i wasnt sure. as for plants, probably nothing special, just whatever i can find thats cheap and looks better that plastic.

If it's truly organic it shouldn't have anything added to it. It should just be regular garden soil. If it has additives then don't use it.

Just buy a block of cocofiber and be done with it. Safe. Easy. Cheap.

The compressed spag/ peat moss that you can buy in the block at say walmart works well too.

I use that im most of my tanks.

How are you setting up the tanks... Firebellies dont need soil to be perfectly honest. Please tell me you are not putting them in the same tank.

definitely not the same tank, the white's are in a 50 gallon tall tank, almost 36" tall and the fire bellies are in an exo terra terrarium. for the fire bellies i want to divide the tank with a piece of plexi glass or something thats about 3 inches tall and have one side land and the rest there water. right now i have gravel, water, a piece of wood and a plastic plant and i really dont like the look.

im kinda just getting into frogs, i have 3 white's, 2 firebellies, and i'm getting ready to get a tomato frog.

Pothos will do well just stuck into wet gravel. It might be a good choice for the firebelly tank, and you won't need soil at all.
