I've been raising Frogspawn for about 8-10 months now. I have a few differnent color varities. Just wonderin how many head I should let it grow to before I need to start thinning it out. Im sure it's personal preference, just lookin to see what other people are doing.

You can cut 2 heads into 2 pieces. Just depends on how much you want taking over your tank 7 how many other varieties of corals you want to keep. They will sting other corals they touch.

I understand I just know its healthy to prune trees. Theres not much out there, that i could find, that explains if its good to do it to help promote growth or something like that. I have torches, frogspawns and hammer corals in the same area and they seem to be doing fine. And yes i understand they can be nasty guests to other corals so I keep them in one area of the tank.

I have read a few comments over the years, where a reefer will state that it did boost their corals growth. Especially with zoanthids. I have also, myself, overfragged some of my corals & they didn't fair well--took quite some time to grow back.

I have to agree with that, don't want to mess with them too often. You should be able to prune/frag them every once in a while and it will help if you are looking to grow more colonies and a higher quantity. With Frogspawns, I do not believe that pruning them will make that particular colony grow faster like some other corals. Just let it grow if you want the colony to be big.

That's my opinion, other people may have other thoughts.

I was thinkin of letting a couple grow out. I have one with about 16 heads on it which i have had since it only had 2. The others are 1 to 8. I'd like to see how big I can get one with little fragging. I have seen a hammer coral that was huge. I just find them to be so cool with such color variations and shapes. I just hate to screw something up and kill them by inproper care when things are going so well.

I have had frogspawn in tank for 6 years and never fragged it, just made a huge colony.

Its up to you, you can kind of trim them to the form you want, but they will grow in areas of lighting that they find desirable.

I have never noticed fragging slowing down growth, I think that most of the heads operate as individual corals almost.

The only real reason to frag is if you want more, or are going to sell them. Never fragged my big one because its got really gross colors.

Cant bring myself to ditch one of my first corals though. That was probably closer to 8 years ago now.

Well with all that said I guess I'll hold off and see how big all my frog spawn get. I hate to assume anything thing but I have read that having different fragspawn together is ok and that they will not attack each other. Anyone ever have anything different happen. By the way, its funny (not really) lol, that all the advice im getting is from a state I was born and raised in for 17yrs. Course Im in Kentucky now, miss snowmob. and skiing. Milwaukee to be exact.

Frogspawn, hammer & torch will all be fine touching each other & will not fight chemically.
