Hey all:
Below is a quick message from a long time friend of mine who is leaving for Iraq. I thought I would share it here in the hopes that everyone could take a quick look and get a reminder of those who are out protecting our freedom. These words came straight from him in an e-mail. I hope you can take a second to read it and pause to think about the people getting on those planes and protecting our freedoms so we don't have to.
Thanks,
Jason
Hi All,
Today at 4:05 pm, about 300 men and women who have been in rigorous training for the last two months, will depart the USA in an Air Force DC-10 bound for Kuwait. Most of them will end up in Iraq by midweek, and begin nearly a year of varying combat operations. They will miss birthdays, weddings, anniversaries, births, holidays, deaths, and family events. They will miss a presidential election. The necessity of their mission will be regularly questioned and minimized by the news and by a majority of people in the country they just left. Their spouses and family will be questioned about whether or not they should be there. I can tell you right now that it is a very real mission to these 300. Most of us will be standing face to face, toe to toe with thousands of Al Qaeda members each and every day, who want nothing more than to reach through the fence and remove the life of these men and women. Yet, against these formidable odds, these 300 will report for duty each shift ready to stand proud as a barrier between good and evil, so the other 299 million Americans safe at home do not have to. Regardless of your views on the war or the President or the military, please, today, think of these 300 courageous souls leaving US soil for a desert land most of them have never seen, but are more than willing to defend in the name of freedom. Please keep them and all the deployed in your thoughts and prayers until we can, once again, relax in the arms of liberty.
Thanks,
Nick
