Well I'm not actually giving up fish keeping but I will be using my breeding room stand to hold beer carboys. 70 gallons of beer to be exact. :D

I know its a little weird to be asking a beer brewing related question on a fish keeping forum but I'll ask it anyways. Can I speed up the brewing time by raising the carboy temperature (a carboy being a big 5g glass bottle which beer brews in) using an aquarium heater? It usually takes close to a month to brew a batch at 70F with the kits I'm using. If I raised the temp to 80F or higher would it be possible to brew the beer in say... 3 or 4 weeks?

lol... I cant believe I'm asking a question like this. :screwy:

I wouldn't do it. In most beers the flavor actually benefits from a cooler and hence slower brewing process. Raising the temperature makes the beer more vulnerable to bacterial contamination as well, which does not taste good, unless you're into Lambics...

I'm not sure how the mods will treat this thread. Discussions of alcohol use seem to be taboo, but I think there have been home-brew threads in the past that have not been closed.

I would worry about contamination.

probably not such a good idea then

Beer actually wont ferment correctly when you try and speed up the fermentation process

also if im not mistaken it if done to fast can break down the yeast and basically ruin the beer.

Its very touchy gotta do it under certain parameters or youll ruin your batch.

much like fish keeping

any 1 thing out of wack can mess up your day
