Well I was finally able to get the female gt of my dreams this week as the guy I'd been hassling her for ended up having to get rid of his 2( it was paired with a white edged gt). After being so excited to go pick her up and going to get her I returned home and opened the box to find her not looking too flash at all to my horror. To cut a long story short I did an ammonia test on the water she came in and bang I realised the problem, ammonia is off the chart i had never seen a reading so dark. From there it was action stations and I quickley got her in the qt tank where she went straight to the bottom and sat half on her side for 5 hours breathing heavily, As a last resort I chucked the divider in the big tank and gave her a foot of spray bar and 2 extra air stones. She responded almost instantly and began to sort of swim again improving as thee night went on. I woke up this morning to her swimming much better and she even managed to come up front of the tank and greet me even with her severely burnt tail. So yea bit of a bummer but I'm gonna do my best to save her. She's burnt pretty bad but has improved somewhat so let's hope with plenty of oxygen and clean water she can pull through, I also chucked a cap *** of prime into the tank as well. Will be doing water changes every couple of days and closely monitoring. Does anyone have any other suggestions? Thanks for reading guys fingers crossed for me lol. image.jpg image.jpg image.jpg image.jpg

Sorry for the bad pics don't wanna have the light on too long and stress her more. Here's a pic of what she looked like healthy a few weeks ago when he sent me a couple of pics of the pair. image.jpg

And a pic of the male white saum, I was stoked to be getting one at first because they were so rare here and I was going to search long and hard to get a few more and grow them for a nice female. That was until I noticed his hideously ugly wonky tail lol. No breeding for this boy. Will prob just end up giving him away to a lfs for a display fish. Not the best pic but you can see how the back of him angles upwards before the tail fin instead of continuing straight. Such a shame coz he'd be a stunner otherwise. image.jpg

She should be fine, the white fin GT or whatever the binomial is; I think looks good, quirks like the tail are what make fish unique to me :)

Yea I'm gonna see if he grows on me or not lol then decide if I'll keep him. Want the female for breeding with my orange male so he was just a bonus fish as I paid less for both than what she would of cost me alone at the fish. Just hoping if she does come good that her tail does too as it's in pretty bad shape

Hello; At some pet stores they put a chemical into the bags when buying fish. I have not checked the product name nor do I know the ingredients. Could this stuff help with the ammonia buildup in a transfer bag?

Yea I've always heard that a bit of prime in the bags helps, didn't think it would be an issue as I only live 15 mins from the seller so from the time I got them until the time they went into the tank was well under an hour. He said his mate had been looking after them coz he needed the tank space. Thinking his mate mustn't have done a water change in a long time or they were sitting in the foam box for far too long before I picked them up.

Hello; I follow. I have transported fish for up to 8 hours with no problems. So they were already in an ammonia soup before you picked them up. Good luck

Just an update, she's made a complete turn around since Monday and is now swimming and eating again. Her eyes have also cleared up and she isn't shedding her slime coat or breathing heavy anymore. However she did end up losing the reLly badly burnt top half of her tail and a chunk from a bit lower. Just wondering if you guys reckon her tail will eventually go back to normal after a while? Or do you think it's too damaged? Thanks in advance.image.jpg
