My 14" Royal Knife is eating pellets after I've fed him live feeders since I got him, about 5 months now. He seems to like it but I'm worried it'll not grow as much as it would've had if it eats live foods. I gave my Royal the pellets for my Flowerhorn...

How do you ween your fish to eat other foods? I've been trying to get my Featherfin knife to eat something besides mealworms. Its good protien, but pellets would be easier. Next project is to get my datnoid to eat mealworms or pellets. Only one does.

Best way is patience. You have to starve it a week and sometimes 2 week for them to be not so picky. They can go as long as 3 weeks without food with optimal water condition.

Try feeding smelt to your GN. It is healthyier than feeders, you can buy it by the pound, and it is a fish so he should probably take it pretty easy. It will also probably make it grow faster than pellets will.

My 10 inch BGK loves any form of shrimp, will ocaisionaly eat floating cichlid pellets. Has never been feed live feeders and seems to be growing ok.

my clownknife to is not eeating anything but livefish, its about 5" already. starving it for two weeks? i think i'll try that one, pellets are really alot easier! thanks for the info. :)

From what I've read you don't want them on just pellets either. Mix it up a bit with shrimp, pellets, blood worm etc. Somewhere on the net is a european shrimp mix recipe. I haven't tried it yet. There is also a oscar recipe that uses chicken livers, beefheart, shrimp and some veggies. I've heard good and bad on using beefheart for the clown knives. For what it's worth.....
