Hello,
Please refer to me as E if you would. I have been keeping fresh water fish for more than 25 years. Although I have many years in the hobby, I have not had the opportunity to continually keep my tanks up and running. This is due to the fact I spent 20 of those years in the U.S. Army. Many times my 21 fish tanks (collected over the years) have sat unused.
I am happy to say that I am now retired and it was only this last week that I set up my first tank in over a year. My plan is to begin with the frontosa cichlid. However I live in the northern mountains of Arizona and there is only one specialty fish store. While visiting this store I found myself absolutely fascinated with some Jaguar cichlids that they have. I witnessed a beautiful pair of Wolf Cichlids a few years back and these Jaguars remind me so much of those fish. I have begun my research on these fish (Jaguars) and I realize the difficulties of providing a proper environment for them.
I have most of my experience with African Cichlids and I have raised frontosa on a couple of occasions, I have also raised dwarfs and feather fins however something about the Jaguar cichlids are pulling toward setting up a living space and raising at least a pair.
At the moment my largest (freshwater) tank is only 75Gal. This will not house a pair of Jaguars satisfactorily, thus I am thinking of trimming down some of my smaller tanks and looking for something bigger so I can begin to raise these extraordinary predators.
I am glad I found this forum and hope to learn much from the members as well as share some of my up and coming experiences soon.
