I would think once he hits like 4-5 in he'll start growing much quicker.

I have a lil' guy that looks just like that and about the same size. I also have a female about 10" that is less than 2 years old. She grew fairly quick compared to most of my other cichlids all the way through but like said in the previous post she had a big growth spurt at about 4" to 7" then barely grew for a couple months and then had another spurt. She isn't really getting much longer but lately she's been getting a lot wider and beefier. Really nice color pattern too, almost like digital camo.
I wonder how much bigger she'll get? Every source says something else when you try to find the max growth rate of any of these fish so I think the best way to know forsure is experience or the experience of others. I fully trust no sources for 100% accurate species profiles. Always a margin for error based on that no two individual fish even in the same species will be exactly the same.

About like an oscar or dovii 1"-1.125" a month depending on environment. Growth will usually curb slightly around the 10" mark. I just got a 2in male myself last Sat.
If you want to maximum growth give it a big tank and plenty of fresh water through water changes with a varied diet. Don't overfeed growth will come. I've found that if you also give the tank a lot of current like a 10-15x turn over rate per hour it also helps growth and their conformation. Just my 2c hope it helps.

naa man your 2 c is great, i have him housed with a dempsey,mayan,convict,low grade flowerhorn,n parrot fish. i just dont want him gettin hurt so im prob gonna get rid of my flowerhorn and parrot eventually, my goal at the end of this all is to have my jag,dempsey,mayan and convict peacefully coexisting in my 125 g ,i know theres gonna be squabbles and such but its watever i just know im gonna have to get rid of the flowerhorn tho
There shouldnt be any problems what so ever in a 125 with that stock, you could probably get away with that stock in a 75 or 90
75 is way to small. Depending if that jags male or not it's gonna get big.

The mayan will be the boss no matter what. They are beast once they hit the 5 inch mark.
