Looking at some Fronts but not sure how fast they will grow or how many i should get was told to keep in a group of 6 or more. All the one's we found are around a inch so the question is how long should i keep them in a smaller tank? Have a 40B and a 55 to start growing them out in.

takes time to grow, is slow compared to other large cichlids...100_0047.JPG100_0095.JPG
these are old photos. Were around 4" then.
takes two and a half years to grow to around 6"

I don't know how long it took to get different sizes but it takes a while. I've had mine for 5 years the first few started hitting the 7 inch mark around 3-4 years in. I got them at .5-.75 inches. Some are still in the 4-6 inch range. I've heard them growing a little faster and some slower. A colony is best, how many would depend on how big of a tank you have. I would say for 6 a 150+. I know people keep them in smaller tanks but from experience I would personally try for at least a 180gal set-up. I find my 150gal to be a bit small. Also make sure you have adequate filtration set-ups when they get larger - you will need it.

The grow slooooooow you will want to start with a group of about 10-12 to get the proper ratio for a colony I suggest starting them in no less than a 75 gallon. I actually got away from Frontosa cause I was so impatient had mine for about a year they aren't very active either. They just kind of hover.

I'm trying to find something for the wife to grow out but have to wait a year before I can set up the 265. She only likes big fish it's cool but dam making room for all the fish she likes is not easy. She is trying to find something to grow out in the 40b and 55.

The smaller ones are likely females.

Seems like the 1st year, Fronts can grow to up to 4". Then kinda grow an inch a year after that, as a general rule.
