I have a 112g tank, and was thinking about trying monster fish...

I'm kinda stuck between 2 species, and have a couple questions....

Can I keep the above 2 species together in a tank my size? I'll buy em small(3-5in.) but will they most likely kill each other when they get larger?

How do you stock a 112 for big fish? Do you just get 1 or 2 and thats it?

It's all new to me, and any help is appreciated.

fh are aggressive so a breeding pair at most. no fh and fronts cant be mixed. if you filter it well you can get 5-7 frontosa. i keep 6 in my 150 along with 7 clown loaches and 12 other african cichlids. either way you go, read it and learn as much about the fish as possible.

go for 5 or 6 frontosas. they are much better than fh

My son has one flowerhorn and one frontosa in a tank together and they are best friends. lol They both love digging pits together. The frontosa started it, and the fh just observed for so long (truly amused by the frontosa's activity), then the fh joined in! They both carry the gravel and pile it like a mountain.

However, MY flowerhorn chases MY frontosa, never hurts her, but thinks it's fun to chase her. SO, they are in separate tanks now. :)

get the fronts

not only are they awesome, but you can actually put other fish with them comfortably lol

I agree! Frontosa's are peaceful slow moving fish. When you get a FH you never know how it will turn out and if it's one who decides to rule the tank, he'll make everyone else in there miserable and totally stress you out!

Just remember that Frontosa's will eat other fish small enough to fit into their mouths. So as they grow, and their mouths grow...well...you get the picture. :)

Also, Frontosa's really need a harem. If you have one male and one female, he can really torment the female as he gets older. He needs several females.

They also love caves. Read up on them so you know howto meet their needs.

OK, I spent about 3 hours researching FH's and Fronts, and have came to the conclusion that everyone else has mentioned....Fronts is the way to go....

Here's another question for you....do stores usually stock them the way you suggested?...mostly fem w/ males sprinkled in?

How do most of you obtain your fronts? LFS, online?

What are good tankmates? Bichardis and leulupi's?

Here's another one....I hate plecs, what are my options for a cleaning crew? Do I need a crew?

You can't really put them together fh's are agressive you will rarely find one that is not maybe in a very large community it might work but not with the size you got.

thanks, as previously stated, I'm going with the fronts.
