1. When do they start spawning.
2. how do i know which one is male or female they all look the same.
3. Mine are around 6 inches and smaller one is 4 inches. total of 6.
and they are 1.2 yrs old.

They should start breeding soon but have heard they need to be over 2 years of age. This is only part of the problem solved though they will need a quiet dimly lit tank fed a wide variety of food and several water changes adding old water to lower tank temp afew degrees. Plus depending on what kind of front you have some are more diffacult to breed. Look up breeding fronts on the internet read several sites to get a good variety of info and pick out what seems to be a coomon theme good luck.

definitely need to be much more then 2 years of age. might be some exceptions but I would say 4 years to become mature and even then they take a few times usually mouth brooding to get it right. 28 days is the time that she needs to mouthbrood the eggs.

my kigomas spawn about 3 times a year and the batches are small (20-40). I use an egg-tumbler to incubate the eggs. cooler water changes and fresh foods is a good way to trigger spawning.

I have a large colony of Frontosa at 2-3 years old. Most of them pushing 14", and they are just not getting ready to breed.

Well age/size, along with tank conditions, certain lighting conditions, cooler water (they do come from deep in the lake). It really just depends on the fish and the conditions. I have talked to quite a few breeders who have told me how they breed their fronts and everyone is different and everyone has their "tricks". The variant may make a difference as well. As for age/size again I think this also depends. 2 years is generally what most say but I would take that as the earliest they may start and not when they will start, it could be/probably will be much later. If you know the variant I would do a lot of research on that variant and try to talk to breeders (some may not tell you everything though). There is just a lot of considerations to take into account for breeding them.

I meant just now getting ready to breed**

well mine are Burundi's and they are 6 to 4 inches in length. What they do is setting hiearchy all the time. fighting and gravel crashing (I hate tht). Was just curious which one is a male and which one is a female. they are 1 yr old. Will post some pics.

I have always heard they need to be at least 2-3 years old and need to live together for over a year before they will breed. I got my colony in December 2009 at 1.5" from three different breeders. I don't expect anything from them until at least 2012.

I would be more than happy to be wrong and have them breed before that!
