Just wondering how many of you have had success in breeding fronts. I just love these guys. I only have 1 young one now, about 2", but plan on getting 5-6 more and having a colony. They will be housed in my 150G. I know that the odds of a good male/female ratio are good buying so many at a time, and my lfs owner(great guy) said that when they're mature enough to sex, he'll exchange males for females for me, trying to match the size as close as possible. Not looking to have a farm or anything, but their such a great fish, and I really enjoy them.

I have a colony of 17... they range from 8-14" and are just now reaching maturity to breed. I did have a female mouth brooding some eggs, but she was the smallest female, and ended up swallowing them.

At 2", you have a long way to go.

I have done it successfully. if you want to breed Cyphotilapia Frontosa you should be prepared to get a big aquarium because this species can reach a length of 35 cm even when kept in aquariums. Frontosa cichlids are however comparatively peaceful and tolerant of both conspecifics and heterospecifics, and housing one male with 3-4 females in a 200-400 liter (50-100 gallon) aquarium is usually not a problem.

I would NOT recommend 5 frontosa at adult size in anything less than 150 gallons.

I have breed burundis and zaire fronts. Takes a long to grow them out. Years ago i had 16 burundis in a 600g and it took about 4 years for them to start breeding. I traded that colonly for 24 fry F1 zaires from bennystropicalfish. It took them 5 years to breed just in time for hurricane wilma to kill the largest ones in the colony (all the dom males) during the 3 weeks it took to get power back.... ( i now have 2 generators)
Then i traded the surviors for a ablino lungfish. :) Thinking if i ever loss power again it does not matter with a lungfish... But the frontosa bug bite me in no time.... ;)
I now have a dozen or so zaires in a 150g. They are about 3 years old now and need to be moved into the 600g soon.

Once they are mature easy to breed, just takes a long time to get there...good luck.
