its a 180 gallon , I started with just a trio and put some gouramis, black noens and tiger barbs as dithers. I do not recommened the tiger barbs at all for dithers, they nip fins bad. the black neons ended up as a snack and also you really have to watch fronts eating live fish because they will end up getting float. Mine bobbed around for a couple days after they ate the brichardi, calvus and black neons, I heard rainbow fish can make nice dithers if they are fairly large, maybe silver dollars and gouramis. As you add more fronts you can remove the dithrs. I have 11 at the moment and might ad a few more females down the road, but they seem pretty happy. I dont have any other kind of dithers in there now.
 
I also dont recommend any malawian cichlids because they are usully more aggressive and your fronts will be stressed with them
