Frontosa compatability with other africans

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
hey man nice fish i have about 13 6 bar burundi frontosa in my 7 foot with other africans :
7 red fin kadango
1 albino red top black bar
5 common albino red top black bar
3 red rubin peacocks
22 electric yellows
5 red caps
1 xmax fulu
and they go fine had them in there for nearly a year now

I have never kept frontosa personally, but from what I have read they don't mix that well with most mbuna (which is most of what you have - while cichlid_man has mostly peacocks). Mbuna are much quicker and more active, therefore they will outcompete for food, but also likely continually nip at the nice flowing frontosa fins.

Just what I have read/heard, if I am wrong someone please correct me.

Frontosas from Lake Tanganyika are very timid fish for their size. They don't really mix well with other cichlids from Lake Malawi.

Not a great idea for the reasons already stated, especially in the confines of a 60 gallon tank.

I said I was growing it out. I have a 225 tank for it. I was just wondering if I could keep it with the africans to grow out, as I said.

You can do as you please, but a frontosa will not fair well growing out in a 60 gallon tank with faster, more aggressive mbuna. Nor will it fair well in your 225 with larger more aggressive CA cichlids. Cyphotilapia do best in groups by themselves.

yea no i dont think so i could see a dollor convict kill your 40$ frontosa, how much BS would that be or a jewel cichlid killing them keep it tanginikan or have a possibility of losing one of the most amazing fish in the hobbie my opinion of course lol

You guys raise good points. I was asking if it was possible, and if its not then I simply won´t get one. I just really like them and kept them before with a mixture of cichlids and see them all the time on here mixed with other cichlids both african and american. but you raise good points and the responsible thing to do would be to not buy one.

thanks for the info guys
