Never had that happen, sorry.
I did find several articles on cloudy eye where the photos looked similar. They suggest testing your ammonia and nitrite levels and if they are okay placing the fish in quarantine and treating with a broad spectrum antibiotic, penicillin or tetracycline based is prefered.apparently several bacteria types can cause it.

Its a pop eye. My bubble bee cichlids had it before. There are medicines out there that wil cure it. just check petco or your local lfs
 
You will need more than melafix I think, that promotes healing and helps prevent infections from getting established but I think it is to late in this case.
