I have started wondering if you can breed central/south american cichlids with Frontosa.

I have an amphilo. Seggatae that I thought was a male. I had to move one of my male frontosa's, so I divided the tank, and added him to the other side.

The next day the amphilo laid a ton of eggs.

Could they have actually produced viable eggs if they were together?

Very doubtful. I wouldn't be that surprised if they paired up, but actually producing offspring is a whole 'nother story. They are not nearly genetically similar enough being separated for millions of years

Oh, the Frontosa will be going back into his colony. I have to deflate him, that's why he's separated from the rest.

Just didn't know if it was possible.. would def be a weird looking offspring.

Just the possibility of it makes me lose interest.

Ok, and your point?

I just asked if it was possible. NEVER said I was going to do it.

I DO plan on breeding and making certain hybrids, but not with Frontosa.
