Hey guys, I have lost 3 frontosas in the past 2 weeks and on of my frontosas has begun to show similar symptoms. They are juvenile, usually in the 2-3" range. The guys would stop eating, breathe heavily, and stay in the bottom of the tank hiding. I have tried melafix and quick cure. 2 days ago I also used jungle parasite clears tank buddies. He seems to be getting better, my preliminary diagnosis is bloat, and i have not noticed any white poop with this one (did with the first one who died). I was thinking that I should continue dosing with the jungle parasite clears every 2 days, but was wondering if I would need to use activated carbon in the interim. Thanks!

Also, i was planning on doing daily 20% h20 changes for the next 3 days. Is that a good idead?

1. Tank size. 55 gal standard, planted.

2. Type and size of fish and all tankmates. Six juvenile frontosas, 2-3"

3. How long the tank has been established. 4 months

4. Results of testing. pH=8.2 Nitrates=20ppm Temp=82

5. Decor of tank. amazon swords, lava rock, anubias. Substrate is sand on one side, gravel on the other.

6. Any other specific parts of tank. 2x weekly water changes 10-25%, this week i've been doing 20% H20 change 3x

Forgot to mention, when the previous frontosas died I took them out and examined them. There are no mucous, white spots, or other spots, etc. The stomach was only a little bit bloated. No other physical signs.

As long as your water is of good quality i would do a water change of 20%-25% every other day and according to directions add Aquarium salt to the tank and discontinue the medicines and see if there is an improvement...what did you feed them?

I started out with cichlid flakes, as they were not eating cichlid gold. I've ordered NLS sinking pellets and Kens premium sinking pellets so hopefully they will take those.
