Hey Everyone,

My light broke the 4 weeks ago and the new light I bought doesnt fit in the lid so I now have an open top tank.

I have a Frontosa colony with clown loaches and came down this morning to one of the Fronts on the floor. Must have jumpe out over night.

Sad way to start the day!

Are Frontosa's usually jumpers or is this a sign of unrest/disease in the tank?

Sorry for the loss.
Most of the lake Tanganyika cichlids tend to flee upwards when scared or in a fight. In the limited hight of an aquarium this automatically leads to jumping. Frontosa are no exception.

Sorry to hear it. They'll definitely do that, they have a habit of getting startled for no apparent reason and then bolting, sometimes into objects in the tank and sometimes right out of the tank it there's an opening and they hit it right. They can also revive sometimes after a surprising length of time outside the water, even if they appear to be motionless and a little dried out. It's amazed me a time or two and it can be worth putting them back into water and giving them at least several minutes to see what happens.

Had a group in 375gal that was 4' tall. My friend wanted tank so transfered mobas to 150 gal that was 2' tall. My nice male decided to go carpet surfing. If you think he looks good in pic below imagine him alive without carpet fuzz stuck to him. He was the dominant fish so nothing ran him out. IMG_20211026_165839703.jpgIMG_20211026_165847414_HDR.jpg
