Hey Fellas, Im new to Frontosa as I used to be exclusive to SA/CA cichlids.
A friend of mine used to collect Frontosa and was telling me how much he loved having them, so I bought a group of 13 1.5 inchers from a reputable source, Kigoma Varient. Im intrigued by their look and how peaceful they are and would like a change of only being able to have 1 fish or a Pair with a divider lol, will always love my Umbee but I am very excited to cross into the frontosa spectrum. My group is stationed at my buddys place till I shift fish.

My question is, do you think I will end up with another colony soon :) as I could say all the fabulous things about SA/CA if asked what would be some positive things about Frontosa? What makes all of you Frontosa gurus so passionate about these beautiful specimens?

I appreciate all your input!

Frontosas are attractive but boring fish. Can get aggressive at spawning time. Better to keep them in larger groups to spread out aggression. Provide females with hiding places, especially when holding eggs.

I have been keeping frontosa for years. I started with a small colony shifted variants and now currently have a colony of f1 Kigomas that I ve had for over 3 years (almost 4 years). I like that I can keep a bunch of them in one tank together and that they are also large fish. They are failry easy to maintain, don't fight to much. I ve had sucess breeding them (no issues with agression during this process either) and they look nice. They can get boring though. Its also nice you can keep other fish with them as well. I think the only down side for me is how skiddish they get sometimes. It can make for an intresting tank because you can do different things to an extent. I am starting to get an itch to keep datnoids and catfish again (but I wont get rid of my fronts). Good luck with your colony I am sure you will enjoy them.

What do you keep with yours ash? I have 13 large f1 moba that are alone. I have wanted to try a top water fish with them.
