Hi all

Looking at putting a Frontosa in one of my tanks with black belt, red devil, pollini, jack dempsey,

I was wondering how it would go? as far as the ph being fairly neutral at the moment?

would I have to increase the ph for the frontosa? would the affect the other fish?

Thanks

raising the pH won't bother the others, but if the frontosa was bred locally, i would not play around with pH. The problem with compatibility is likely as frontosa are rather passive, especially compared to very aggressive cichlids, like red devils, and to a somewhat lesser extent the black belt and even the polleni

^^^ agreed. The front will most likely be bullied and will not be comfortable with those tankmates.

I keep like cichlids with each other like if the fish came from from tanganyika in Africa I would but him with those kinda of cichlids. Because their is a reason why you can't find a jack dempsey with frontosa. Seachem makes great ph water treatment chemical that is buffer for certain african cichlids. To be honest with you the front would live a better life in a specific breed tank...

Frontosa should be in a colony of their own kind to really thrive...they are shy and non aggressive so even if things did go okay with aggression issues.. the frontosa would have tough time competing for food... just not a good match at all in my opinion.

just go to the pet shop and ask what ph their water is and if they cant tell you just buy a small inexpensive fish and test the ph of the water in the bag.
something else you can do is check if all of the tanks in the pet shop are on the ons system, if they are the water is normally at 7 ph that is normal
