Hello this is my first post on here and let me just say this forum is amazing for finding information about basically every type of fish i could imagine id like to keep. Ive kept fish since i was 12 years old and for a year when i was 15 i had a 135 gallon saltwater tank. I ended up taking it down due to the upkeep of the saltwater and decided to turn it into a freshwater tank. I offered my fish for sale online and ended up trading them for 7 frontosa's of the same size about 2 inches or so. I do not know if they are the same family or not. I kept them in a 135 for about a year until I had to move and was restricted to a 45 gallon. I let my friend keep my Frontosas for a few months while the move transitioned and he didnt do the upkeep and let two of them pass. I immediatly got them back and kept the 5 4" fronts in a 45. Earlier this year i got the chance to acquire a 240 gallon 72"x24"Wx 36"H O'DELL Aquarium. I havent built a stand for it or set it up properly but due to a sudden leak that developed last month in a recently aquired 50 Gallon High that I moved the frontosa's to along with a 9" Florida Gar a 5" Peacock Bass, and a 6" Tiger Shovelnose Cat, ive had to temporarily set it up on the floor with 2 Emperor 400 Filters. The gravel is a round stone on one side and a smaller smooth round stone on the other side. I have slate rocks propped up on larger rocks and they are loving it. On the open end of the tank there are some Amazon Swords and another type of plant. I use NovAqua+ water conditioner as well as API Aquarium Salt. Temperature is maintained at 82 Degrees by a 400 watt and a 250 Watt Heater. I feed them 2 to 3 times a day With varying amounts of Omega One Flake, Cichlid Gold Pellets, Cichlid Sticks, Freeze Dried Krill and every three days I put in 30 or so feeders a few at a time training them to come to the surface. They are all eating very well and look amazing. The best part is my Alpha Male who is 10 inches and my largest Female who is about 8 inches are now breeding. It has been a week long progress in the making between them pairing and then finally spawning this morning. He has been chasing her around the tank and flipping his fins at her erraticly for about a week losing all his color and turning a pale blueish gray with no stripes during each dance session. This morning i witnessed them due the same ritual but this time i watched them go over their nest multiple times laying 30 or more eggs and scooping them into her mouth. During the process my beta male (i believe he is a male because of his hump and fins) tried to interrupt multiple occasions with my dominant male chasing him away to the other side of the tank each time returning to his females side. Amazing creatures the frontosa are! So theirs my whole story but heres why im posting. What should I do next to keep these new frontosas. I have a 29gallon, a 50 and a 45 gallon that i can use. Any suggestions? THANKS!!!! Pictures to come.
