I have my eye on a 9 inch frontosa at a LFS, he is going for I think $50-$60. not sure what type he is, though.
I've seen a few pictures of frontosas with smaller fish, including other cichlids, but would one go well with an angelfish that is about 4-5" long? Other tankmates would include: 2x 9" senegal bichirs, 1x 6" bala shark, 1x 6.5" common pleco, 1x 5.5" sailfin pleco, 1x 3" pleco(forget the kind), 1x 3" apple snail.
it's a 90 gallon tank.

It will most likely come down to water prams. The angels and other tank mates will not care for such high ph. Also Fronts get large and will eat what they can fit in their mouths, or break apart in their mouths. I would worry about the angels being eaten. I would also be concerned that if you keep the water prams too far from what the front likes you will lose the nice color and maybe a 50-60 dollar fish. Of course I am sure someone here has done it and will tell you that you can. I have also seen cats that will live with mice, but you never know when the wild animal side will show and you will lose a fish. My front ate a brevis the other day. Just swam over to him and decided today was the day to eat him. He did so... It was so odd to see.

Also I forgot to mention that fronts are able to be so large without working hard to eat because they need less light to hunt and be active compared to other fish. This gives them the ability to sneak up and eat fish while sleeping. Since your tank maybe inside that the house light or street light maybe enough light to sneak up on fish for most of the time that lights are out for other fish.

ok, thanks.
my ph is around 7.5, so I'm sure the frontosa would be fine with it. and so far the angelfish and other fish has been fine with it. I have heard that frontosas were pretty dosile, especially for it's size. maybe it would work if I got a slightly smaller one, or moved the angelfish if I had problems.
the lights in the tank aren't off for very long until all the light in the house go out and it gets pretty dark, so that shouldn't be a problem.

anybody else keep angelfish(or similarily sized fish) with fronts?

My fronts prefer the lights off. Front are found at the bottom of the lake where the sun isn't so bright. Just my opinion though.

i have 3-4 in fronts and i keep them with other tangs that are 1-2.5 inches. i'm sure it's just a matter of time before they get eaten. if it fits, its probably going to get eaten

Your bala and angel will both be lunch for the frontosa before too long. Don't worry about water parameters; if your front is at your LFS and only $60 it's not wild caught so has no idea what kind of water it's 'supposed' to do best in. As long as you're not putting into pH of 6.5 or less (and I don't know of many regions that have that coming out of the tap), you're fine.

Personally, I think with your tank being as fully stocked as it it adding anything else would be a very bad idea. You have a lot of fish that grow over a foot or more in length. The bala, bichirs, common and sailfin plecs. I wouldn't want to do water changes on that thing when they are all fully grown.

i think angels are more agressive than fronts.the only fish that my fronts pick on are each other,my sisters angel pics on everything except a gourami the same size.i think that the frontosa would be fine in that tank as long as you kept up with water changes.im sure the angel would steer clear of the frontosa, they arent stupid fish
