I've been zoning out to my Frontosa tonight (as usual) and i noticed that one had a long white poo hanging. To be honest, i'm a little freaked out. My first reaction to seeing white feces is "BLOAT!". But to me, that makes no sense.

There are 12 2-3" frontosa in the tank along with 3 calvus, 3 syno cats and 5 yellow labs. Everyone seems to be doing great. Even the frontosa with the white poop seems to be breathing normally. Everyone seems to be eating unless i haven't noticed something wrong. Is there any situation where white is normal???

Hopefully i'm just overreacting, but if the front's are sick i want to catch it early.

Update:

Did a 50% water change and treated the tank with metro and a few tablespoons of epsom salt. Not feeding the fish for a few days because i believe this is due to overfeeding. At this point the same frontosa has a white poo hanging. He seems to be the only one that has the poo and that is breathing heavily. Everyone else seems to be doing fine but i still treated the whole tank.

I think i will wait until tomorrow and then feed them a small amount of NLS that has been soaked in a little water/metro mix. Any comments/suggestions will be greatly appreciated. I would hate to lose one of my fronts.

Sounds like you have everything covered and the Epson salt should “hopefully”
get the job done. It is just strange that the fronts would get the BLOAT. Did you feed them any tubex worms, the freeze dried sort.

No tubifex worms. They are fed NLS cichlid formula, but because they are little and we are trying to grow them out, i've been feeding them 2-3 times daily. I have a feeling that between my girlfriend and myself feeding them, that we may have fed them a bit too much. Hopefully the break from eating and the epsom salt/metro bath will make them feel better.

As i said before, only one front is showing any symptoms. But i figured i would treat the entire tank to be on the safe side. I think i will feed them only once per day this up coming week starting on Sunday. That way they won't have eaten for about 48 hours. I think i will switch to the NLS Thera A just to be safe as well.

sounds like he has some GI upset, if he is swimming normally he will probably be OK, you might want to increase the epsom. I have a 180 gal and I treat with a couple cups for the whole tank. pre dissolve and add slowly. Really fronts only need fed 3-4 times a week. they have really slow digestive systems. I wouldnt feed for 3-4 days

I added 1 tablespoon of epsom salt per 10 gallons. Do you think i should discontinue the metro? The package said to wait 48 hours and redose one more time.

my large male has a episode of the white stringy poop awhile back and he wasnt eating. I did a water change and dosed the tank with a couple cups of epsoms over a couple days nad added some pickling salts, about 3/4 cup. I raised the temp to around 89 for a few days and stopped feeding. About 4 days later I did another water change without the salt and fed some frozen shrimp and he semed much better. Later I switched over to some NLS thera A. You can probably discontinue the metro and be OK. I have never used any meds in my tank, if I did I would probably use a hospital tank and only if the fish was really in bad shape. Most of the time lowering stress levels and clean water / salt do the trick ,,,knock on wood

try to mix the food with the metro. I feed frozen blood worms to a fish with internal parasites mixed with the metro

Cool. How do i mix the food properly with the metro? Do i just sprinkle the powder on the NLS?

Also, i took the carbon out of my eheim canister. Can i just go ahead and add that back since it seems as though dosing the tank isn't very necessary?
