Would a 1.5 in. frontosa do good in a 10 gal. tank until it gets around 4 inches? I have a bigger tank but I'm afraid my arowana would eat it. At petsmart their only like an inch to 1.5 inches. Also, do they grow fast?

They grow very slow. Even with good food and clean water, they do not grow quickly. He would be OK in a 10ga but I wouldn't keep him there long. They need space to grow.

I am pretty sure your feeling would be right, he will remain small for a bit, and they need more room than a 10 even for slow growers a 20 long for a month or two or three, but the smaller the tank the less happy he may be... but I believe your arrow would find him to be food... how big is the arrow? and I am not sure how well an arrow will do period with fronts...

he will grow much faster than ur fronts thats for sure but i think it depends on the fish in how they act i even have yellow lab fry in there and he doesnt bother them at all

I don't know about how fast the arrow grows but the frontosa can get to 8+ in about 2-3 years. They are pretty deep bodied, but I don't know how big an arrows mouth is. If you are familiar with Oscars, then expect the frontosa to be as tall and almost as thick as an Oscar up to about 8-9 inches. After that the Oscar gets alot taller and thicker and the fronts don't keep up. So if an 8-9 inch Oscar can fit in an arrows mouth then so will a frontosa.
