Hey guyz,
I have been thinking of keeping a small colony of frontosa umm about 5 of them,my LFS is is going to bring them in shop today. He said they are about 1 inch+ .So I just wanna ask can i keep them in a 15 gallon tank till they attain maturity of about 3.5-4 inch.after that i will transfer them to 120 gallon tank. And yeah one more can you all tell me there growth rate, their diet etc etc, they are burundi frontosa.Till now i have been keeping red frontosa in 120g tank (7inch+) and he is good in eating hekari bio gold.

I would at least start with a 55 as a growout. Smaller tanks are much harder to keep stable, not to mention once they hot a few inches the smaller tank will be pretty cramp.

The 15 gallon won’t work. I used a 30gal for 1 inch fry and they outgrew that very quickly and went to a 55 which they also outgrew quickly and then went in with a few larger fronts in my 150gal. They all got a long fine!

Note: I wouldn’t recommend or bother with anything under 55gal

I would not start with 5 in a 15 gallon tank. They are slow growers. I guess a better way to put it is they are definitely not fast growers.

Way too small for growout. Even with their slower growth rate that size tank is too small. Frontosa’s are predators so a good staple cichlid pellet with occasional frozen bloodworm brine or mysis would be where I’d like to be for food.
