I am new to this forum, as well as to the hobby in general. I have had problems getting my tank cycled. Mostly due to not doing my research. My question is this. Why is my Frontosa spending all of his time hiding in corners? As far as I can see he isn't eating either. Help. Is this normal? I habe had hime a week or so. I am doing water changes almost daily and testing. I am using salt, prime, and nite out 2. Temp is at 82. Any advice would be appreciated.

What is your tank dimensions and how long was the tank running before you put fish in?

Frontosa like a colony .. if you have just one.. it is not as good for the frontosa to live a happy stress free life.they need company of their own kind... frontosa do not eat from dropping a pellet into the tank.. they are bottom feeders.. you need sinking pellets .. they are by nature skiddish... especially as they mature.. the lake they originally came from is very deep and dark... they love their caves......also it takes time to acclimate to new surroundings.. how big is this front..?

+1 they are known to develop float if the are fed floating pellets. Also your tank is rather small for even one full grown front. They are quite slow growers though so you have time!

He is rather small. Maybe 2in. I am waiting for my lfs to get one more in. I am feeding sinking cichlid pellets so that's a relief. I plan on going to a 200gal next year.

looks like a nice aquascape for a front sand may be preferable but i wouldn't worry. Get a few more small ones and start saving for the big tank!

oh he is a cutie..just a baby.. you can get a couple more and will be fine for quite awhile.. hiding is natural ... don't worry.. as long as all your perimeters are okay and you do water changes.. he will be fine..
