I want to get a group of Moba Frontosa and a small group of C. Moorii and grow them out in a 125 gallon tank. Would say 5 Moba work with a few C. Moorii? I think this combination would be kind of cool but i'm worried that the Fronts will need the whole tank for themselves. What do you guys think?

Well, I think it would work.....As long as there is ample amounts of hiding spots for each.....Fronts always do best alone, but a few other smaller non aggressives will work......I have 6 gold head calvus in with my colony of Kigoma's.....

i bought 7 frontosa and 3 moorii for the 75. they did fine for a little while. them one day the moorii decided that they wanted to be asses and tore into the fronts. i removed them one at a time and even the last one chased the fronts. didn't work for me but i've heard others have had better luck

It sure is a beautiful combination. Thanks for sharing the pics.

I have group of frontosa with some c. moorii and have never had an issue with aggression between the two species for over 2 years now.

While frontosa/blue dolphin combo's usually work, anything can happen in any african cichlid set up.

i never had a problem with aggression when i kept these two together both good choices and i would like to keep them again in the future

I'm going to try it as soon as I find a juv. group of zaire Moba frontosa at a good price. I can only find larger fish right now and aside from being really expensive I'd rather grow my fish out so I'm going to hold out for a group of 3 inch fish and shoot for 5 fronts and 5 moorri and see how it goes. If anyone knows of anyone selling Moba at that size let me know. Thanks

Ive seen setups with Frontosa's and moori's. They seem to be doing fine :) Like every other Africans, they all just different until you try them out

I've kept moorii with fronts and I won't ever do it again.

I bought 23 1-1/2 inch fronts from a breeder to add to a 125g that I had just set up. I also grabbed 5 blue dolphins because I liked how they looked - they LOVED the open swimming space and were really doing great. But since the fronts were so tiny I started to beef up their food intake so they would get bigger faster. I fed them frozen krill, pieces of worm, brine shrimp and extra New Life Spectrum pellets. They really started to pack on the mass, but a problem arose - the moorii were better eaters. They could out-swim the fronts and were soon eating the majority of the food - which led to bloat. Malawi bloat hit the moorii hard, and by the time I knew what was going on it had started hitting the fronts too. I had never thought that fronts were able to get bloat - I was wrong. The moorii that died would stick to the filter intake, and the fronts are piscivores and naturally eat fish flesh.. so the disease-infested carcasses became snacks (before I could remove them) and the bloat transferred to my baby frontosa.

They all had to be moved to a 29g hospital tank and treated with clout. When it was all said and done I had 8 F1 Mpimbwe frontosa left and a single, very skinny, very aggressive moorii. And that is why I won't mix mbuna with frontosa again - the differences in their diets can be disastrous.

Get some calvus or comps in there and you'll be happier. That, or feed your front/moorii tank nothing but NLS pellets.

Go with the comps/calvus or another predator and you can feed your tank earthworms or almost any frozen food you like. I have an 18" Fire eel in my frontosa tank and they get along great.
