Frozen Convicts

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
I cant remember any studies in regard to specifically convicts but tilapia(Oreochromis) was tested and found to have little to no thiamanase.

Thiaminase is more promonent in cold water species of fish. Goldfish, monnows, carp, smelt etcetera.....

Why do you have to freeze them? How do you kill them? Clove oil? Chop head?
im getting them from a buddy of mine. he has too many and wants to get rid of them so i told them to freeze them. i doubt he will clove oil them. im jus telling him to zip lock it and freeze it. my female is 22-24 inches now so i think she can handle a 2 inch convict fine.

Took a look at how much fish food i had left in the freezer. I typically feed about 1 whole fillet of fish to fill up my 8 rays (cept 1 who doesnt eat anything but earthworms). I have a 32 oz of silver sides, and some anchovies/smelt left. this is probably last me 1-2 months more. Then its back to restocking my fridge with garbage fish from the ocean! I will try to catch silver sides this year myself. So i will need to get as much free food as possible ;) convicts being my first contender.
