FRT and softshell question!

Do they bask like red eared sliders do or do they stay submerged underwater for the rest of their lives? Are basking lamps required for softshells and FRTs? Thanks!

they can stay submerged underwater all their life unless the female begins breeding.
no basking lamps required, but a uv light wouldnt hurt.

Only the female to lay her eggs. No land for a FRT.

they need to get the chance to get out of the water and dry off and soak up some rays and heat

they are halthier if they do have a basking area and but iv seen individuals that have lived their entire life (6 years being the oldest)without land. i agree that it is better for them to get some rays i was just saying its possible for them to survive for a period of time without it

Ive never even heard of FRTs using land except to breed..

Frt is a fully aquatic turtle. I, personally, use a viatmin d3 bulb on it for the shell and it seems to be working good!
