I'm primarily feeding it algae wafers however he does get a dose of hikari cichlid pellets whenever i fed my fish. Will this pose a problem as frts are suppose be fed mainly low protein foods?

I don't think so. In the wild they will also eat insects from time to time. Do you only feed your FRT with dried foods? If so, maybe you should add some veggies and fruits to the diet to keep it healthy. Also, don't forget to add some cuttlebone it can chew on from time to time for getting calcium.

I think your turtle will be fine as long as it's in moderation. I feed Hikari Cichlid Gold a few times a week to my Musk Turtles. One side effect I've noticed is that my male Stinkpot has more of a pinker hue to his skin coloring.

Ad calcium rich fruits like figs and dark leafys and your good to go;)
