What else can I feed my FRT, I currently feed mainly Algae wafers. I also feed hikari floating pellets but have not tried anything else

Cut raw shrimp, live anacharis, peas, melon, banana, kiwis, apples, pears, white fish meats, kale, crayfish meat, clam meat, mussel meat, earthworms, ramshorn snails. Ken's spirulina sticks w/calcium, spirulina wafers w/meat, Ken's mixed sinking sticks, etc.

Note: all meats should be thawed from frozen to reduce risks of introducing parasites. Ramshorn snails should be aquacultured to reduce risks of parasites. Live anacharis should come from hydroponic farms to reduce risks of hydra and argulus introductions.

Mine loves kiwi ans strabwrries. Cut them in half.
Remove what is not eaten after a while.

Hey Oddball, I read that you don't want to feed turtles previously frozen fish because freezing removes some nutrient that they need. Is this not so? Would save me a pain in the butt buying fresh, never-been-frozen fish.

Thanks guys, so pretty much anything it will eat. I did not know if it was better to stay vegetarian or introduce meats. It has eaten small pieces of tilapia I feed my rays. This guy is a big baby and pretty gets hand fed all the time.

FRTs are omnivores. However, they're more herbivorous when young. They're trend towards a more canivorous diet takes off at around age 1 year and increases steadily as they grow and mature. I keep several live bait minnows in with the FRTs. The dithers give the turts some exercise and, eventually, a quick snack.

freezing will break down omega-3 fatty acids which benefit the turts circulatory system. However, short-term freezing to no lower than 0F won't break down all of the beneficial fatty acids. Freezing newly purchased fish for 24-48 hours is all that's needed to kill parasites. Nutrients don't break down much until frozen for a week or more.

Steer away from warm-water species such as tilapia. Warm-water species usually contain high concentrations of thiaminase which is detrimental to turtles. Deep ocean cold-water species such as halibut, pollack, and cod are much more beneficial for turtles.
