Hey all,
I posted a while back about my FRT and his shell mutation and was trying to get some advice on foods. I now have a problem with him, the only thing he will eat is Hikari Massivore and i can't imagine this is doing him any good and he recently developed 2 holes in his shell each about 3mm diameter...
How can i get him to eat greens etc, i'm trying dandelion and lettuce and brocolli atm with little success. I am also changing his substrate from sand to coral sand tomorrow in hope he'll get some calcium from that?
Thanks,
Aquai

Get some cuttlefish bone from your LFS. Stick some forks or spoons in it and stick it in the tank. It will float at first, but should sink relatively quickly. The FRT will then be able to eat it and get whatever calcium it needs, whenever it wants. :)

Other foods to try are:

Catfish Fillets
Salmon Fillets
Whole/Chopped NightCrawler
Kiwi
Cantelope
HoneyDew
Watermelon
Apples
Banana
Green Beans
Lima Beans
Zucchini
Algae wafers

Not sure how large your FRT is, but depending on its size, it may need more protein in its diet. Also, never really heard of FRT getting holes in their shells from calcium or food deficiency. I suppose its possible, but its more likely there is another cause. What are you keeping with your FRT? If you have any type of pleco in there with it, remove it immidiately.

Sorry I can't be of much help, perhaps someone with more knowledge and experience will be able to help you shortly! :D

Holes in the shell may be some sort of bacterial infection. Could you consult a vet?

Added to what PP states above, try to feed it some pleco and clown loach pellets ( botha re sinking pellets ) Mine loves them...

He took a couple of algae wafers earlier in regards to miguel's post... Also there are no vets in the area that seem to specialise in herps. Just had blank faces when asking...

In regard to peanut's;
Have tried a lot of those foods, it just seems to me he is getting enough calcium, and he didn' take cuttle last time. He does eat banana and kiwi but i have been advised on Turtle Forums against that.

He was in with a plec but i have recently moved him into a tank on his own in an effort to get him feeding so hopefully this will help. I also have put a UV on this tank to prevent further infection, it's just getting him eating now . . .

I think there are one or two vets down in london that do specialise in herps (not personal experiance but people I know). If you rang a few up around you and basically ask around, if someone can't, someone is bound to know where can help you.
