What substrate are you guys using or recommend for FRT's? All my tanks have always been BB but I want a more decorated tank this time. Substrate, some drift wood and maybe even some plants tied to the driftwood. Are there any specific plants that they won't munch on? My RES eats every plant I put in there. Some plants for decor and to help the the nitrates would be nice.

i keep mine on coral sand (or whatever that stuffs called...). i think it will eat all the plants you put in there, or at least rip them up.

So any substrate should be fine? I would like sand that is course enough so that it isn't easily vacuumed.

I have a few baby FRT's waiting for me, so I need to get a new tank set up and cycled ASAP! This tank is going into my living room so I wanted it decorated and not plain and bare bottom like my other tanks.

Have you considered pool filter sand? Nice looking, cheap, turtle friendly....

You might want to also add some crushed coral to increase the PH of the tank water. Just a thought...

the crushed coral is heavy enough not to get sucked up IME, and as said, it keeps the PH about where you want it with FRTs.

if you're housing the babies together keep an eye on them, they tend to not play nice with each other all the time

Thanks for the tip shrimpsauce. Never seen crushed coral so I'm going to the LFS tomorrow to see if I like it or not. Maybe mix it with some pool sand?

Reading around it is recommended that they housed alone, but I see a few forum members have a few housed together. I'll try it and can seperate and sell a few if there is too much aggression.
