My FRT developed a few small white spots on its shell, and I cant really tell if its fungus or he just hit somthing in the tank, but I took him out, let his shell dry and put iodine on a paper towel and rubbed the spots lightly.(When out of the tank the spots are invisible). Anything else I should do? What brand of salt should i add to the aquarium and how much per 10 gallons? Thanks.

I'm not the biggest fan of iodine...I always use Fungus Cure (acriflavine) added to the tank water for treating turtle fungus.

the white spots are either scuffs, fugus or fish picking at it removing the skin covering the shells. what is the ph, temp and what fish do you keep with the frt. also what decorations and substrate do you have

PH is about 7.8, I have crushed coral in the filter, temp is 80, pool filter sand as substrate, and two small jack dempsey fish with it. Only decoration in the tank is a 'turtle hut' its a plastic cave that it can sit in on the bottom. Thanks.

if it gets worse it is fungus. you can try pimafix and melafix both natural fungus medication made from tea leaves. the frt probably just hit the decoration it should heal up. just keep an eye that it doesn't get worse. if you want you could add african rift lake salt to raise the ph a little. frt like higher phs that should also help

Terramycin.....Get it started before it gets worse. I don't think Acriflavine is being produced anymore. A lot of the stuff that worked really well in the past isn't being produced anymore.....

Didn't we caution in a previous thread that this might be a problem? Cichlids can be really nippy with FRTs. Mine (and a friends) both had similar nibbling issues when kept with cichlids.

Really? Crap...

Once i have heard that if frt's get infections... you can take the frt out and blot dry the infected area and put Neosporin (ointment ) on it and and place it back in the water, and it should heal that way and wouldn't affect water quality.
But you should take some pics of the infections and post it on here so we can know more of what it could be.
