I've been in the fish game for 20+ years and never had a problem beating the occasional Ich outbreak (salt + increased temps have always worked quickly and efficiently). Well, I picked up a RT Shark 10 days ago that was seemingly in good health (good color, no spots, good fins, etc). Woke up two days ago to find all of my fish (excluding my pleco) covered in Ich. Immediately responded with increasing the temp to 85F and adding salt to combat the parasite. Today, the spots have intensified and the poor fish are flashing quite a bit (especially my nice male JD and BP's). Did a lot of reading and have become aware of the "Eastern Super Ich". I'm really hoping I don't have this, seeing as it's extremely difficult to kill. Treated my tank this morning with "Quick Cure" and hoping that it combats the Ich. Any thoughts or suggestions? Will be performing PWC's every three days between treatments. I've heard about new strains becoming more resilient, but this is just crazy!:irked:

Don't know what Eastern Super Ich is.

However, as you already know, regular ich has 3 stages and invariably (from the point you start the treatment) it will get worse before it gets better. Using malachite green, temp and salt at the same time is not something I would do, so I hope you fare well on that. High temps and salt alone will eradicate the ich.

I'd vaccum the substrate, add aeration and continue the heat/salt treatment. Good luck.

Just performed a 25% PWC. Will now be sticking with Salt/Heat only. Going to slowly take it up to 88F and see how they handle that for 7-10 days. The fish aren't flashing as much, but still visibly covered in Ich. Fortunately, both respiration and appetite have not been jeopardized at this stage in the game.

Ive used quick cure and it always worked maybe turn the heat up too 90 degrees and add extra air since the fish are so stressed and good luck knock on wood I haven't had that problem for years. be careful with the quick cure because what ever it gets on stains BAD make sure you are removing carbon from your filter or it will take out the quick cure and add good amount of salt
