That hapened to my buddies femake jag when it bred with a convict. Jags i know feed off the slime coat of their parents. I dont think cons do but they ate his female up pretty bad no matter howuch the fry were fed. My male dovii also got hos dorsal fin ate up pretty goo durring one of their spawns. I have found it best to remove most of the fry after a week or 2 with the parents to help avoid this.

Fry will sometimes feed on the slime coats of their parents. In the process the fry can do a lot of damage to the fins and body of the parents. This is made worse when parents and fry are kept together for too long in the limited confines of an aquarium. I personally have never seen it go as far as it has in your situation. What is the size of the tank that the female was in with the fry? Is the male also with the female? It's too bad that you no longer have a qt tank. That would be an ideal place to keep the female to help her heal stress free with frequent water changes. I hope she pulls through.

Looks like the above member beat me to the punch.;)
