fry difference

A few of my carpintus fry went down an overfow and became mixed in with some ceibal fry, I believe it may now take months to be sure who is who. I've become interested in how similar all new world cichlid fry seem to be to each other, yet some are different.
Went thru some pics from spawns past and present.
I invite others to add fry pics in order to compare similarities and differences.

Very interesting thread! Kind of off subject(well not really) but out of all the different pure bred fry you have raised... What would you say the percentage of short bodies are or is there a percentage? I ask because I don't have near as much experience in a whole lot of pure bred fry... just convicts, midevils, and jags. To my knowledge no short body fry were created from those pairs. Right now I have a carpintis pair that throws "shorter bodies" all the time... I would say 1/5 of their spawn is "not regular length." Also I have 3 different shapes from them... regular, short bodied(round as a ball), then last I have what appeared to be shortbodied but now they have a bigger more muscular looking shape with a stomach that always looks full. They are not as round as the "true" short body and actuually have some length to them. Also I was just curious to learn what different shapes(if any) you have seen while "culling" these pure breeds.

I've not grown any short bodied fry, I'm big on culling, so if I see anything that looks at all off, it becomes food for my predators. Although it is sometimes hard to determine certain mutations at a small size.
It seems easiest to remove and use mutants as food when young than to allow them to grow, and do it later.
I'd prefer 10 close to perfect specimens, rather than 100 questionable ones.

i like growing out fish from fry,get to experience the full spectrum of how great cichlids are.parental behaviour is so interesting.1st pic are synspilium,2nd pic was 2 young heterospila
