Have any of you tried these products with great success? I am setting up a little betta breeding project and need to decide if there are any alternatives to culturing live food that are just as good. This is from Ken's Fish:

TOM HATCH & FEED SHRIMP HATCHERY:

Feed live food to your fish, nauplii simply swim out of Hatchery into the aquarium after hatching. Can be used in fresh or salt water aquariums. Requires a source of air or small air pump.

Does this product work as advertised? How efficient is it? If I have to go with live BBS, I will most likely get one of these.

DECAPSULATED BRINE SHRIMP EGGS:

Non hatching decapsulated eggs are fed directly, without the necessity and downtime of hatching. Decapsulated eggs have a higher energy and nutritional value than a live brine shrimp nauplii. Since these eggs are non-hatching, no energy is consumed in the hatching process and lipids, amino acids, and enzymes are left intact. Simply rehydrate the decapsulated brine shrimp eggs for a few minutes in fresh water and feed directly to your baby fish or reef tank. (A little bit of these goes a long way).

Do fry take to this as readily as they do to live BBS? Keep in mind the fish I will be breeding will be coming from Thialand where they raise their bettas on live food. Is this just as good as live BBS? Is it better? What are the positives and negatives?

GOLDEN PEARLS:

"Golden Pearls" - A New Brine Shrimp Replacement Diet

Golden Pearls is a revolutionary new larval diet that has successfully replaced live Artemia nauplii in marine fish hatcheries in Europe. A patented processing technique (agglomeration of micro-encapsulated particles) resulting in feed particles or "clusters" that resemble raspberries (under the microscope). Golden Pearls have tiny air pockets that keep the feed particles in the water column, not on the bottom of the tank, and mimics live brine shrimp nauplii.

Ingredients: Brine shrimp, squid, shrimp and fish protein, animal protein, purified fish oils, phospholipids, astaxanthin, vitamins and protected minerals, antioxidants, and immunostimulants. These are now available in 3 sizes!

Analysis: Protein - 60%, Lipids - 8%, Ash - 15%, Moisture - 8%, Vit C - 2000 ppm, Vit E - 400 ppm, Astaxanthin - 500 ppm.

How good is this stuff compared to decapsulated BBS eggs? Have any of you tried this product with high quality betta fry? Any downsides?

Thanks to all who can answer these questions.

Bettas ? Newly hatched betta fry are real tiny and can not take the food you described which may be good for older and bigger fry. You will need infusoria, green water or the micro-encapsulated egg I described in another thread. Good luck.

Hmm . . . I've always had success in the past with them eating powdered fry food and not having to use infusoria etc. I also used egg yolk. I've read that they are capable of ripping BBS apart and eating them like that, is that not true? Also the Golden Pearls come in different sizes (the smallest being 5-50 microns) that's too big for betta fry?

Another product I would like to hear about is Hikari first bites.

oh yea with that hatchery, I've never seen it but I see a problem with the salt water if they can hatch and swim straight to the tank.
It said that the hatchery is designed so that no salt water passes from the hatchery to the fry tank.
