My lab just released 7 fry this morning, I have placed her and the fry in a 29 gallon together. My question is:

Will she eat her young if she is hungry?

Thanks, I'll post pictures in a day or to...

There is no need to separate her if she has already released the fry, in fact it would be best to keep her in the main tank so that she doesn't have to be reintroduced, causing pecking orders to get messed up again. Depending, sometimes they will eat there young sometimes not.

Yea it is hit or miss weather or not they eat them. It is advised no to remove the female since the fish may not be so happy when she returns.

here is what I did...I initially took her out and put her in a 29 with some other babies who were only a couple months old. As she became closer to releasing them I seperated her once again to let her release the fry alone. After that I put her back into the 29 with the new fry and left my other babies in a old 20 gallon. I want to move the other fry back in once the new fry are large enough to not be bothered.

This morning I couldn't see any of the new babies and thought perhaps she ate them, I'm sure they are hiding but just wanted to ask people's opinions...

Thanks,
