I've had two different sets of fish spawn recently and I'm curious as to how everyone grows out their fry. Is it better to net them and place them in another tank, or to let the parents raise them on their own. If netting them is the best solution, at what size should I look to take them out of the tank? Any good advice is welcome :)

As soon as they are able to scuttle around on the bottom, remove them into a well aerated 10g tank. you could siphon them out of there pretty easily at that time. They will begin to eat brine shrimp even before their egg sacs are absorbed. Most will start taking fry powder about this time as well. If you leave them in there, the parents will eventually get bored and eat them.

Yes the old Turkey Baster...Ive tried everything and this method is the safest for your frys, even while they have the eggsac.

Im curious what kind of fish do you have? I have jack dempseys whos first eggs hatched 5 days ago, I have mama and babies in thier own 30 gal tank, ive heard JDs are amazing parents so im leaving her in with them for a while probably untilt hey are 2-3 weeks old

The fish in question are La Ceiba Yellowheads. Thank you all for the advice I'm gonna set this up asap :)

The best way to raise fry:

Purchase a seperate tank, is called the "growout tank".....I prefer a 20-55g...........Purchase a sponge filter and a heater that fits the tank........Once the eggs hatch, siphon them into a small bucket and pour the whiole spawn into the growout tank..............The yolk sack will be soaked up within 5-7 days........Then the wigglers will become "free-swimmers....." This is when you wil feed them baby brine shrimp..............BBS should fed to the fry 3-4 times a day for the first 3 weeks.........During the first month, do 50% water changes EVERYDAY...........By week 4 or 5, the fish are already big enough to feed upon crushed flakes, pretty much crushed anything.........
