fry tank

how old are they? just make sure you have an airstone and do a WC(only like a pint)

The water needs to stay clean just make sure the intakes are covered with something small enough so your fry wont get sucked up in it. Small mesh filter bag or foam of some kind? Good luck

if you're using an airstone, might as well hook up a sponge filter to that pump instead. Splurge for the extra 5 bucks and add some awesome bio filtration plus a wee bit of mechanical filtration. I just scoop some out every day with a cup, and add some from my tank (real easy since my fry tank is under my main tank).

I plan on moving my fry from a 5 gallon to a 10 gallon and was wondering if it is necessary to have a filter running?

Usually an airstone is used in the first week of fy life...I, myself, do not use sponges untill the 3rd week because too many fy get stuffed under the sponge and die of starvation or suffocate....Once the fry are big enough to take in crushed flakes/pellets, and are too big for bbs, that is when I use the sponge filters or mini Aqua Clears...

These fry are between a few days and 2 weeks old. I have several batches in the 5 gallon tank right now. Most are guppies, but 1 is a variatus? and one looks like a dalmation molly. What I have them in has a filter which I covered with a mesh bag and use an airline hose to do a water change once or twice weekly 25%.

If I put them in the 10 gallon tank, I will have to buy a filter for it, which isn't a problem, but what would be the best filter to get? I have plenty of mesh bags I can put over the filter intake tube, and can add the filter pad from the 5. The 5 is a hex tank and the filter won't work on the 10 gallon.
